From the Desk of the Church Office:

This week we received this helpful email from Judy Burr, Executive Director of Project Hope for the Homeless in Painesville.  In it she provides phone numbers and very useful information–please make note of it.  Copies will also be available on the church Info Desk.  Thank you, Judy!

Hi Lori,

Good afternoon!  A good friend and former trustee and member of Hope Ridge UMC just shared an e-mail you wrote about a wonderful, caring congregant helping a couple men who were homeless the other day.  Since I LOVE all of you at Hope Ridge (you helped found our organization), I wanted to give some guidance to keep members safe when encountering those in need.

·         If you see someone in need, call 2-1-1 or 440-639-4420 to find out if we have a bed available.
·         If you see someone in need of services, call Extended Housing outreach workers at 440-352-8424 and they will visit/evaluate the situation.
·         Don’t give anyone a ride (you never really know their background, we knew someone who died this way).
·         If someone is hungry, don’t give them money, give them a gift certificate or actual food (money may be used for his/her addiction).
·         If someone tells you they have been evicted from the shelter, there is good reason (we do accept re-admission interviews to those who are eligible, permanent evictions may be due to threats or dangerous behaviors).
·         Pray with them or for them, but be careful about putting yourself in a situation alone.

Hope Ridge does so much for God’s people.  They have loving hearts and great generosity.  I would be happy to visit or have Pastor Beth and others here for a tour if that is helpful, too.  God bless all of you for your ongoing support and prayers to us and those we serve.

In Christ’s Service,

Judy Burr

“There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.” – Deuteronomy 15:11

What’s your favorite hymn?  This Sunday, Jonathan Gordon has to be away on business, so as our guest pianist we are blessed to have Pastor Beth’s father, Rev. Gary Streiff, at both services.  Since Rev. Gary is known to be able “to play every song in the Methodist hymnal,” a few hymn requests from the congregation will be taken this Sunday.  Come with your favorite in mind and be sure to grab a hymnal on the way into the WFLC.
